Hi guys,
I'#039ve had a couple of MK5'#039s over the years but not had one for a little while, after recently selling my track ready MX5 I have chucked a little bit of that cash into a 2007 manual GTi, it'#039s on 125k miles but has full service history and a very recent cambelt/water pump, serv

Hey, thanks for the reply. Just borrowed another code reader and its the rear left speed sensor. Thanks for the tip I'll look to replace the hub aswell. That explains why I couldn't reset the steering light, cheers.

Cheers both. I have swapped the ignition housing (not a nice job at all) and what I did in order for my old key to be able to do both the ignition and the door is take the old lock cylinder and fit it to the new ignition barrel. The key now turns freely and car now starts fine but I have an issue.
The remote fob doesn’t work and also when I turn the ignition off the rad

Hi mate, did you ever manage to fix this issue? I felt like I had written that as it's exactly the same. I've got it cutting out after a drive on the motorway, changed the tandem pump and lift pump and won't start again after it cuts out unless I spray in easy start. It's left me in some precarious positions as well! Please let me know if you've sorted it! Cheers

You'#039ll need to replace the ABS pump, had the same issue, the amber steering light is very difficult to go out when you have the solid EPS light on, think I did a 50 mile trip and it randomly went off. I had to replace my ABS pump in the end to resolve the ESP light stuck on issue, once replaced the amber steering light will go out after a full turn to the left then right after 20-

Amber steering light should go out after 20-30 seconds, all the way left all the way right, steering wheel straight and drive a couple of meters in a straight line no more than 20MPH. I had an issue when my ABS pump needed to be replaced the ESP light was stuck on amber yellow and after disconnecting the battery no matter what I tried the amber steering light would not clear!

Chirping sound at low RPM - what could it be?
Last Poster: hcmzah in Mk5 General Area on December 03, 2025, 06:14:05 pm
Hi all,
I'#039m getting a bird chirping sound when I accelerate very slowly up to 2k rpm. It sounds like it'#039s coming from the right hand side of the car when in the cabin. It only happens when I have my foot on the accelerator pedal, as soon as I let go, it stops. Doesn'#039t happen if it'#039s just rolling.
The sound is a lot more consistent when turning sharply
